Country Casual Teak was founded in 1977 north of Washington, D.C. by an avid gardener who received a set of British teak garden benches—originally crafted from salvaged teak sailing decks—as a gift from her husband. The brand originally sold imported British teak benches and gardening gifts at horticultural shows and through regional newsletters, then expanded into a full line of teak furniture serving both residential clients and landscape design professionals across North America. The first catalog was mailed in the 1980s, the fully original Brittany bench debuted in 1987, and a foldable Adirondack chair was picked up by Harrods in London. All teak is harvested from government-managed Perum Perhutani plantations in Indonesia, where trees must grow for a minimum of 50 years before their heartwood qualifies as Grade A—weatherproof, oil-rich and free of defects. Production has been based in Indonesia since the 1990s, using traditional British mortise and tenon joinery refined with modern ergonomics for casual outdoor living.
